Hello - that was an inspiring exposition of Leviticus 26 and a great challenge to take into 2010 - I hope I can pursue it with the delight and zeal God intends. There is something that nags away in the background whenever I hear of the blessings and cursing associated with obedience. It is the plight of those who suffer terribly in this world because they are Christians. Perhaps it is physical deprivation, cold, hunger, perhaps it is fear of arrest, perhaps it is heartbreak at seeing someone they love deprived of justice, freedom, health etc. How do they hold their heads high ? I know there is an answer and perhaps it is only those who have gone through that terrible testing who can give testimony to it, what do you think ?

Does this help ? The speaker mentioned that the Israelites were being taught to become a nation with God offering to be their God and showing them how to treat Him and one another. He was a Holy (other) God and as such necessitated that they recognise this and respond accordingly - he was showing them how. An emerging nation would need all the blessings Leviticus outlines to be successful and this was what God was promosing if they recognised who He truly was and treated Him accordingly. To-day our circumstances are quite different, we have our nationhood, but we live in a fractured society where broken relationships and people abound, often including ourselves. As our speaker so aptly taught, we need to learn again God's intention for us to lift up our heads to be the person he always intented us to be. Those who are so cruelly mistreated because of their faith aren't being denied God's blessings, they aren't missing out on His faithful love, they are learning in some other way about the very depth of it. I know it's very easy to write that and how difficult it must be for them to trust, but we often hear surprising stories about the growth of the church under persecution, so although difficult to understand, there must be a truth hidden somewhere in that enimatic statement. Hope this makes sense
