I wanted to respond to the talk about church, especially the comments along the lines ‘it was never meant to be the ideal place where everything is alright, it’s a place of work in progress, where we can face the realities of life’. This is because over the last three or four years I’ve been learning this truth. Over this time I’ve more and more urgently questioned the Lord as to why I am part of a wonderful church yes, but being a longtime spinster, ‘it would have been better Lord, don’t you think, to put me amongst more of my own ilk, people my generation, with whom I can build an easy rapport because I share quite a few of their experiences, outlook, opinions etc etc’. Instead Lord, there are a lot of young families, married couples, in fact Lord, it’s beginning to make me realise that what I really, really want and have always wanted, is to have some lovely children, like the ones around and a lovely husband, also like the ones around. Is your idea really such a good one Lord, to be reminded of the things I’ve spent so long trying to forget‘? However I’ve been discovering, it’s always a healthy thing to unearth the realities, however painful, tucked away in your heart. Once they are shared and discover the kind of acceptance that Jesus would give them, there’s an opportunity to find a way through. My way through is to be involved with families, to try and meet any little need I can. This gives me enormous pleasure, I feel really blessed. I was thinking of the verse Psalm 37;4 Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desire. I feel that in His own extravagant way, that is exactly what He is doing and it’s through his wise, gracious provision, church.

I would like to thank the Lord for his wisdom and for this lovely lady. Thank you that she is in our church and not another. Myself and my growing family have been so blessed by her caring and her thoughtfulness but most of all, her time with us. My three little children really look forward to her visits and so do I. Thank you Lord for knowing what we need best and your provision. Thank you Lord for a loving church where we can be ourselves, share our hopes and dreams, fears and sadness.
