This page is dedicated to an understanding of the temperaments and how they affect the way we think, feel and act. We hope over time to build this into a valuable resource.

The best way to really get to grips with the understanding of the temperaments is to attend one of our 'Understanding Yourself' weekends because you see how it all works out in other people's lives as well as your own. We also run an online course that gives you personal support and help in really understanding yourself and a manual is also available that contains valuable information on this important subject.

If you have any questions or contributions to make to this subject do write in via the contact page.

Below is an interesting look at the different ways that the temperaments respond in a particular situation. It was written by my wife, Merle.

I have added a blog so you can write in with your experience of how the understanding of the temperaments has helped you. Cathy has sent in our first post.

I am going to add various insights on this page until there is sufficient to categorise and get into some order. Below you will find an interesting insight into why a Choleric Melancholic can really struggle with feelings of low self-worth. If you find any of this material helpful, feel free to pass the page link on to someone else.

'If Only'

'If only we had known all this years ago.' How many times have I heard those sentiments expressed! When we discover, in later life, just how good life can be it is all too easy to look back with regret. Rather than doing that, look forward with gratitude to what the Lord has for you now. These can be the best years.

For those who are setting out on life's journey - how important to get to grips with understanding ourselves and giving ourselves to the Lord and each other before we end up experiencing the pain and struggles that living without that understanding can bring. Don't wait until the 'chickens come home to roost.'

Questions

I am often asked questions, some of which I know would be helpful to a wider audience, so I will put them up here as they come up. At this point they will be in no particular order but as the numbers increase we will organise them under subject headings. Feel free to write in with your own questions.

Q. Do you think Melancholics dream more (dreams when asleep, not day dreams) than other temperaments?

A. Yes, I do. The reason being that they cannot distance themselves from their emotions in the same way that Phlegmatics can so all the thoughts and feelings bubble under the surface and come up when control is lessened in sleep. The dreams are the brain’s attempt to work things out – so it is better to have talked things out before you go to bed and to have settled issues.
